Strategic Communications

About

History

Rose, Sandberg & Associates is a strategic communications firm headquartered in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Its founders, Leslie Sandberg and Sally Rose, are long-standing friends and business associates who decided to combine their expertise in communications, journalism, public policy, government, grant writing and the non-profit world to offer a range of services for Cape Cod and the Islands.

The “Associates” are a professional network they have built over the last 20 years whose expertise they can tap for certain projects and plans depending on the scope of the services requested by clients.

Our history is our expertise. We are here to support the Cape and Islands’ for-profit and nonprofit businesses, municipalities, associations, political candidates and non-profits.

Sally Rose

Sally has more than 30 years experience working in journalism and the publishing industry, communications and marketing.

She has created marketing, public relations and media relations content for nonprofits, including brochures, newsletters, websites, fundraising prospectuses, press releases and op-ed columns.

Sally served as editor for 10 years at the award-winning community newspaper Provincetown Banner, working her way up from part-time proofreader, starting when the nascent paper was just two weeks old. As editor, Sally’s duties included editorial staff management, story ideas and story development, photography and photo selection, editing, writing and layout for the weekly newspaper and monthly special sections. She also recorded weekly radio news spots for community and public radio stations.

During her 20-year tenure at the Banner, Sally earned multiple New England Press Association awards, including for editorial writing, editorial supplements, community involvement, headline writing, business and economic reporting, human interest features and more. In addition, during her leadership the Banner earned New England Newspaper Association honors for distinguished newspaper and a Publick Occurrences award, for outstanding journalistic accomplishment that benefits community.

Prior to that she worked in nonfiction children’s book publishing, editing books on science, nature, history and more. She has authored three children’s books, two on weather phenomena for middle-grade readers and one picture book, The Mix & Match Book of Bugs. She also co-authored a nonfiction book — called Intelligence Unchained, on how to enhance your ability to learn — with a retired researcher and therapist who designed workshops for veterans and others intent on improving their lives.

Leslie Sandberg

Leslie’s thirty year career in the public sector has established her as an expert in strategic communications and public policy. She has advised labor unions, non-profits, advocacy groups, political candidates and elected officials how to successfully handle public affairs issues, campaigns and manage crises.

On Cape Cod, Leslie was Senior Advisor to State Senator Julian Cyr (D-Truro), where she was responsible for media strategy, complex public affairs issues, constituent issues and stakeholder relationships on behalf of Senator Cyr for Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard. Leslie served as the chief communication strategist behind Julian Cyr’s stunning primary and general election victories in 2016.

Prior to her consulting work, Leslie spent a decade with the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office as its Press Secretary, where she was recognized by the Minneapolis Star Tribune as “smart, seasoned and knowledgeable” while holding “one of the most demanding political jobs in the state.” Leslie was involved in numerous landmark consumer advocacy lawsuits and legislative remedies for two attorneys general, many of which helped change the way state government protects the public.

She was a key spokesperson for the Minnesota Tobacco Trial, litigation that former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. C. Everett Koop called one of the greatest public health achievements of the twentieth century.

Leslie’s career also includes positions at NBC News in Washington and working at the White House. Her political work started in 1987 on U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy’s re-election campaign.
